Conamix is looking to add a Senior Research Scientist- Materials Synthesis focus to its team of core technology leaders. This position will innovate and execute in the field of electrochemistry and materials for the research and development of lithium ion batteries, consistent with company goals and strategy. The Sr. Research Scientist will solve difficult technical problems through innovation and rigorous R&D execution. This position is based in Ithaca, NY, a small cosmopolitan known for its beautiful gorges and waterfalls, and is home to Cornell University and Ithaca College.

The successful candidate will solve difficult technical problems through innovation and rigorous R&D execution. This position will require lab work, supervision of direct reports and will report to the VP of Research & Development.

Essential Functions:

  • Synthesize novel materials for next generation battery technology
  • Perform analyses and data interpretation in support of new technology development
  • Develop relevant methods for material characterization and performance validation
  • Provide project status updates in the form of weekly presentations and technical reports
  • Review and evaluate existing technology and generate improved technical solutions
  • Be aware of and comply with local, state, and federal laboratory safety regulations
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in safe and clean conditions
  • Exhibit conscientiousness, dedication, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in materials chemistry or related with 0-3 years of post-graduate experience
  • Strong educational background and proven experimental skills in materials synthesis, preferably with experience in composites, solid state, and/or polymer synthesis
  • Experience in characterization techniques and data interpretation (e.g. SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, TGA, IR, DSC, NMR, UV-Vis, MS, GPC)
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing goals and objectives
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
